Chris' Parents, Dale & Shauna, came to Juneau to visit us for the weekend!!!
Day One:
Dale and Shauna flew into the Juneau Airport while Chris and I were still at work. I checked them into their hotel room, at Country Lane Inn (the hotel I work at), then I sent them over to where Chris works at the restaurant in Grandma's Feather Bed. Chris was able to treat his Mom and Dad to dinner and be their server. They loved watching Chris be a server and run the restaurant.
Day Two:
The next morning we all woke up early and picked up Chris' parents and brought them back to our TINY apartment. We happily showed them our beautiful view and also gave them the 30 second grand tour of our miniscule place. Soon after we headed downtown to explore some of the unique shops.
| Shauna, Me and Chris, (Dale took the picture) all visiting in our humble LITTLE apartment. |
After a quick visit at our place we headed to the quaint streets of downtown Juneau.
| Chris and his parents standing out side of a very Alaskan shop! |
| I found a beautiful beaded necklace! |
We found some of the coolest beads ever!
| Chris found a gorgeous Walrus tusk. |
We stumbled into a Fudge Shop!
| These all look so good! |
| Shauna cuddling a darling little stuffed Sea Otter in the fudge shop. |
| Sea Otter paws, wonder how these taste. |
| I captured some Polar Bear paws!!! |
| Dale caught some fishies. Easiest catch ever! |
In one shop we found some of the cutest little stuffed creatures!
| This little guy is actually a footstool!!! How cool is that? |
Downtown has all kinds of neat shops. We all had fun exploring.
| One view of downtown Juneau. |
| Me and my Lovey Christopher! I love him so much! |
Once we all decided we were hungry, we hopped into our beastly white van
and headed over to Douglas Island to a place called the Island Pub. It
serves excellent gourmet pizzas!
| This is the Douglas Bridge, we crossed it from downtown Juneau onto Douglas Island. (Picture taken on Douglas Island, looking back at downtown Juneau.) |
| This is The Island Pub, located not too far from the bridge. |
We all sat down, picked a table with an excellent view, and decided on two salads and two gourmet pizzas to share between the four of us.
| Chris and I's pizza to split! Thin crust, lots of toppings, and super yummy!!!! We couldn't finish it alone. |
Mmmmm, YUM!
| The caesar salad Chris and I ordered to split was just as delicious! |
We had one of the best seats in the house.
| The restaurant atmosphere was clean, modern, and had beautiful views! |
After that fine meal we rolled out of our chairs and decided to relax at the movie theater. On our way to the movies we found a viewing deck, so we decided to stop and admire the beautiful scenery.
| This viewing deck looks out to Downtown Juneau from Douglas Island. |
| Beautiful wooden deck! |
| Everyone put your feet in! |
After a nice visit on the beautiful wooden viewing area we decided it was time to go if we wanted to make it to the movie.
We went to see Wrath of the Titans. It was pretty good, the men enjoyed the action.
After the movie we headed to Fred Meyers shopping center where we can buy just about anything! We walked around most of the store and bought groceries for our Sunday meals.
| Chris and his Dad walking towards the GUN and KNIVES section. |
After shopping we headed back to Dale and Shauna's hotel room and visited there until we were all too tired. We headed home and went to bed.
Day Three:
Sunday morning came too fast. We all had to wake up early to get ready for Mine and Chris' early church (9 a.m.). After church we all headed home to change into everyday clothes and decided to take a hike along the coast to the Glacier and fresh water Waterfall. It was a beautiful day.
| Our drive to the Glacier, so pretty! |
| Dale & Shauna, happy to be headed to the Glacier! |
| In January I took a picture of Chris standing in the middle of this little lake, now look at it! Don't think he could stand there anymore. |
This is where we started our walk along the coast.
| I took a shot similar to this one a few months ago when there was snow on the ground and everything was frozen over. Now it obviously is mostly melted off! So pretty! |
| Chris loves Ariel! |
We were in no hurry so we took our time having fun!
| The ice has started to melt! No more walking on the ocean! Chris grabbed this ice just off the shore, in shallow water. |
Finally we reached the beautiful huge Waterfall! (The Waterfall is about half the distance of going all the way to the Glacier, we didn't make it all the way to the Glacier.)
| Those two little colorful dots are Chris and I in front of the Waterfall! |
Just take in the beauty!
| I had to strap on my big lens to capture this shot of the cute Mountain
Goat and I still had to crop this image way down to make him visible! We
saw tons of them running all over the mountain! Some were even taking a
drink at the top of the waterfall! |
| This picture is priceless! I absolutely love it of Chris and his Mother. |
The prettiest part of the whole trip! A natural fresh-water Waterfall, and the beautiful Glacier both sharing the background!
It is some sort of tradition to drink straight from the Waterfall once you reach it. So we sent Chris to drink from it for all of us!
After playing at the bottom of the Waterfall we decided to take a different route back to the car.
| One last look at the Waterfall and Glacier together before we headed further down the trail. |
It was a very pretty and scenic trail back.
| This is a view a little further down, in the other direction, on the beautiful trail as we were hiking away from the Glacier and Waterfall. |
We hit all types of terrain: water, gravel, mud, snow, rocks, wood . . .
Pit stop to play in the water.
Shauna and I did not want to get our feet wet at the big waterfall
so we stopped at this fresh water stream to try the water.
| Natural gorgeous colors and textures in this moss that was growing along the trail!!! |
Isn't this such a beautiful Visitor's Center?
| This is the Visitor's Center view. |
After a day of exploration at the Mendenhall Glacier we headed back to Chris and I's apartment where we treated Chris' parents to Bacon Cheeseburgers, chips and a game of Phase 10!
| Nothing beats a homemade cheeseburger in my kitchen! |
After Shauna beat everyone at an extra long game of Phase 10 Chris and I surprised Shauna with a cookie cake and presents!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR SHAUNA! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!!!
We got you cake and presents! Surprise!
| We sang Happy Birthday to her, told her to make a wish and she blew out the candles! |
Chris with his handsome Dad and beautiful Birthday Mom!
| Shauna and I! Aren't we cute? |
| Chris picked out the perfect card for his Mom if I do say so myself! |
She loved that we bought her The Hunger Games book! It is so good, I would recommend it to anyone!
We hope Shauna enjoyed her surprise. After celebrating we took Chris' parents back to the hotel and we all went to bed and rested up for our adventure in the morning.
Day Four:
Today we decided to go visit the Shrine of St. Therese and go for scenic drives.
| The blue coast line close to the Shrine. |
I love to rock hunt, especially to search for heart shaped rocks, and Chris found one!!!
| Beautiful rocky coastline! |
| Chris and his parents on the side of the Shrine Chapel. |
| Chris and I have already visited this Chapel, but we thought it was so beautiful we brought his parents. |
| Shauna and Dale modeling in front of the open ocean. |
| I absolutely love this picture! Such a gorgeous shot I got to capture of the Shrine grounds. |
After exploring the grounds we went to find the Labyrinth.
Chris, Shauna and I all decided we wanted to walk along the Labyrinth path. Chris started, I followed and Shauna was shortly after me. It was so much fun, we ended up all chasing each other through the twisting path. Dale took the straight shot and beat us all.
| One of the first signs of spring for us in Juneau! |
After a lovely exploration of the coast and Shrine we headed back to Chris and I's home to relax. Then later we headed back downtown to get some dinner at a place called The Hanger on The Wharf. It also had an excellent view.
I love the bright blue of the building! Also I love that it is on a dock! I love wood docks!
| I have to admit this is a great view! |
After some fish and chips at the restaurant we all retired to Chris and I's place to visit for the last evening Shauna and Dale had in town.
| Chris is just so cute! This is a darling picture of him! |
| These are the prettiest postcards I have ever seen! |
Before Shauna left I took her to the store where she could find some beautiful souvenirs to take home.
We found some of the most gorgeous postcards and we had to get them!
Finally Chris and I took his parents back to their hotel room and said our goodbyes! Although it was hard to say goodbye we all had such a great time! Thanks so much for coming to visit us Dale and Shauna! You are welcome to fly back here anytime!
We love yall!
